Strategy SourceEducation Endowment Foundation
What is this strategy about? The strategies should be described and modelled with feedback before pupils practice them. Support should be removed gradually, with pupils taking responsibility.
Why are good writing skills important?
Writing skills are an essential part of communication. Good writing skills will allow pupils to convert their thoughts into words to communicate messages with clarity.
How do you build confidence in writing?
Practising writing regularly can help children to develop their fine motor skills which can improve handwriting. So, encourage children to keep a diary or journal which they can fill in every day to record their thoughts and feelings while practising their writing skills.
How do I put this into place in my classroom?
- Use this any time you are going to do any individual writing activity
- Set aside time to model and practise as a class
- Plan at least one full writing composition activity a week
