    About The Strategy Source
Carnegie Mellon University is a global research university in America founded by Andrew Carnegie in 1900. The university has over a dozen locations in six continents, with alumni students including 20 Nobel Prize laureates, 124 Emmy Award winners, 10 Academy Award winners and more.

    What is this strategy about?
Pupils often focus on the superficial features of learning (e.g. examples and problems) without understanding or recognising the general principle involved.

How can teachers support children to remove barriers to learning?
Identify any barriers the pupils are experiencing. Working with the pupils through questioning and thorough assessment of their class and homework, you could identify how these barriers can be minimised.

  2. Choose this strategy if you want to...
    - Counteract barriers you have identified with the pupils’ application of knowledge
    - Identify reasons for pupils’ lack of understanding despite previous learning
