What Is This Strategy About?
Building vocabulary is everything when you are teaching, and therefore you need to explicitly teach vocab in order to get more children to retain it and also be able to use it correctly in the right context.
Why is building vocabulary important?
Having a rich vocabulary will allow children to communicate in a more effective and engaging way. It allows them to be more explicit and precise when sharing their ideas and opinions.
How can you support children to build their vocabulary?
Frequency of exposure to targeted vocabulary will increase the likelihood that young children will understand and remember the meanings of new words and use them more frequently. Explicit instruction of words and their meanings also increases the likelihood that young children will understand and remember the meanings of new words.
