What is this strategy about?
Allow pupils to think before answering. If they aren’t productive with that time, guide them towards being more productive. You are not going to get the best answer with only 2 seconds of reflection time.
Why is it important to let students think before answering?
Wait time allows students to really think about and understand the question that the teacher has asked. This will give learners more time to reflect on their answers, allowing them to give more detailed, well-thought-out answers to the questions.
