What is this strategy about?
When you mark work, you should be able to see what pupils do and do not know and can and can’t do. This should also be used to plan future lessons. Make sure your marking style allows you to evaluate the strengths and developments of your pupils.
What is effective feedback in maths?
Effective maths feedback should promote learning of the maths content while also strengthening the application of mathematical practices. To do this, students' work practices should be observed so that you can assess what they are doing well, and what areas they need to improve in.
Why is feedback important?
Constructive feedback promotes growth and development to help improve performance. It is a useful way to help people work on areas of improvement and is a good way of motivating them by highlighting any achievements.
Choose this strategy if you want to...
- Stop just saying “well done!” on pupils’ work
- Use your feedback to inform future planning
